The Senator representing Anambra South in the Nigerian Assembly Ifeanyi Ubah has stated that children represent the hope for a better future.
This is in commemoration with the Children’s Day of year 2020 as May 27 every year is set aside to celebrate children across the globe.
Children’s day is usually celebrated with fanfare and numerous activities to honour our little ones, but this year, the world is facing a grave and unprecedented threat; the COVID-19 pandemic which has reached an unimaginable scale.
This global health situation has deprived children of the glamorous parades and outdoor events that characterize Children’s Day celebration.
He said: “Our children are the leaders of tomorrow and our hope for the future. Without them, the nation’s hope of building a youthful and productive workforce greatly diminishes and the basic family structure appears imbalanced.
“They are the ones we are depending on to take Nigeria to greater heights in the future. Therefore, it should be understood that their welfare should be a collective responsibility of all adults and relevant institutions in the society.
“As children continue to temporarily stay out of school in Nigeria and other parts of the world as a result of the global pandemic, I believe that it is important to stir up the passion of younger Nigerians to take advantage of the abundant technological opportunities of the future.”
The Capital Oil boss concluded by adding that it is the right of every child to have access to quality and affordable education, healthcare and other basic necessities of life.
“ I sincerely believe that it is the right of every child to have access to quality and affordable education, as well as healthcare and other basic necessities for a good life, in a peaceful and secure environment.
“I want to assure my constituents and supporters that I will continue to do my very best through the instrumentality of the legislature to create child-friendly policies and build a harmonious society which is empathetic to healthy up-bringing of our children.
“This special occasion today should motivate every parent, guardian and the Nation to provide all possible opportunities for their children to grow with love, care and dignity.”
