I am not infected with COVID-19 – FLIP TV reporter Michael Adekunle cries out


There are speculations that Flip Tv’s frontline reporter and presenter of the popular international program on ‘YouTube Bystanders at Newsstands’ Michael Adekunle has been infected with the dreaded novel coronavirus.

Fans both in Nigeria and diaspora have shown fears that the presenter might be running the risk of contracting the deadly infection which has killed more than 150,000 across the globe.

The journalist is a known figure who besieges local newspaper stands seek opinion of bystanders who analyse topical issues in the country.

Adekunle who has indeed gathered momentum and huge fans across the world recently opened up on his health status and the news hovering around.

He said: “It’s just a mere speculation, I am very sound and don’t have covid-19, I have no symptoms of it and I don’t pray to be infected.

“I smile whenever people say what do not exist. If i have the virus, I know what to do, I know the number to call, at least the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) is there.

“I know I’m doing a risky job, I know the virus is deadly, so I dare not risk it. I quarantine myself everyday at home, I wash and sanitize my hands before and after the program and i practice the social distancing rule,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has urged members of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 that were at the burial rites of Mallam Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, to excuse themselves from the daily briefing.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, chairman of the council, Emmanuel Ogbeche, called on the members of the PTF which includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and National Coordinator, Mr. Boss Mustapha, to demonstrate dignified responsibility by not putting journalists and others who attend the briefing in harm’s way by not attending.
